    I think it’s worth noting that iNavX was maybe the first app to support AIS target overlay using your boat’s transponder or AIS receiver and some device to put the target data on WiFi, which it still does quite well. Note the supported devices here:

    So the new iNAVx AIS Live is about overlaying AIS targets collected by shore stations and aggregated to a site like Marine Traffic (which may be the data supplier, though that’s not stated). It’s easy to setup for sure, but it will not work unless your mobile device is online and there’s also a receiving station in your area.

    Very disappointed in the new AIS overlay. Information about the vessels is inadequate. We need to know the name and type of vessel. Other internet based AIS programs provide this as well, in some cases pictures of the vessel. Refresh rates are slow also. I am a big fan of iNavX. This new app is disappointing. IPad and iPhone user
