I'm having to run a new robnet cable and replace an AP16 controller. These are mounted on a completely dry interior location in the dark. The blue (and yellow) shims that facilitate locking the cable are completely deteriorated, crumbly. Additionally one of the connector pins broke off in the instrument. I post this as few posts address long term reliability. I'm sure Simrad will not admit falt but they at least need to advertise "new improved " simnet cables.

You're not alone. I had similar issues with some Simnet gear in our 2005 Eastbay 47. Plastic just crumbled.
