I believe in 2001 it's likely your engine uses a MEFI-3 or MEFI-4 ECU. The only gateway I know of that works with MEFI controllers earlier than the MEFI-4B (the first to use standard J1939) is from Fox Marine. I believe if you get in touch with them they should be able to help you get the information you're after.

Hello Ben - want to give an update.

I contacted Fox Marine and they were helpful. They assisted me in ID'ing my ECM as MEFI-3 and I made the purchase. Went ahead and installed the N2K network and the Fox gateways. I have a Garmin 942xs, and it immediately saw the N2K engine data -- happy dance. All-in, the project cost about $800, with the gateways, N2K network parts, wire, dashboard power switch - and about 6 hours of my time. As an added plus, the Fox gateways have Bluetooth integration, so I can see engine data on my phone using the Fox app. Your referral was a homerun, thank you so much.

I've got 2004 VP 5.0 osi engine. Looking for interface/cabling to pump engine information into my Garmin. I wasn’t sure if it was compatible.

Hi John - Good chance Fox might have something compatible. It all depends on your engine's computer. Go to their website, in the FAQ section, they have easy instructions on how to get the part number of your ECM to reference the right gateway for you. My computer is a MEFI-3 type, and they have products for other types too. Plus they were real helpful, and reasonably priced.
