Hi, all.

I’ve had a long-term issue with iPads running Navionics and AquaMap.  Periodically, the maps will flip from heading up to one of the other orientations.  The boat icon will drift along in the general direction of the heading until I tap the orientation button to restore heading up. Typically, it will perform normally for a while, then revert to whatever it wants.

We’re running 12.9 inch, cellular iPads with internal GPS. I’ve tried them both with their internal GPS and connected to our Vesper AIS network. The latter works a bit better, but the problem still exists. Do I need a dedicated GPS receiver, like the Dual SkyPro XGPS160, or is there another problem I should look for?

Thanks in advance.

Ian,

I've seen some variation of this behavior but haven't run it down. Have you noticed, particularly in Aqua Maps as it clearly indicates when the app is using external GPS, if there is a change from internal to external GPS when this occurs? If you're seeing this behavior both with the iPad's internal GPS and with a TCP connected external source of position data, I don't think the trouble is going to be the GPS receiver itself. Hence, I doubt a Bluetooth GPS receiver would produce differing results.

Ben, thanks for the feedback and fixing the posting issue.  I haven’t noticed whether it’s using internal or external when it does this.  I’ll pay better attention next time we’re on board.

Ian
