Lumishore Announces Lumi-Link Command Center

Powerful Plug-and-Play Module Complete with Universal API Allows Boaters to Control Onboard Lighting Directly Through Touchscreen Displays and Mobile Devices

Swansea, UK and Sarasota, FL – Lumishore, manufacturer of high-performance LED lighting systems, announced today the marine industry’s first plug-and-play module with a pre-installed, universal lighting Application Programming Interface (API) – the Lumi-Link Command Center. Offering boaters complete control of on-board Lumishore LED lighting systems, the Command Center creates a centralized control platform for the entire vessel with a single cable connection to a compatible display.

Reducing helm clutter and simplifying vessel operation, the Lumi-Link Command Center provides an innovative and intuitive lighting control interface when connected to a Garmin, Raymarine, Simrad or B&G multifunction navigational display (MFD)*, or a proprietary touch-screen Lumi-Link display. When connected to WiFi, the Command Center also enables full lighting control from a smartphone or tablet. The powerful interface features palette wheels for color selection and color tuning and horizontal slide bars for quick adjustments to lighting intensity and white balance – allowing for complete personalization of any vessel. Customers can select from an infinite number of hues, intensities and functions. Lumishore’s control system also features optional presets and pre-programmed effects like strobe, sweep, cycle or the unique ‘Sound-to-Light’ mode that pulses lights to the beat of any song currently playing on the display’s built-in media player.

“Since the company’s inception, our engineers have dedicated themselves to defining the future of marine onboard lighting,” said Eifrion Evans, CEO, Lumishore. “These efforts have come to fruition with the Lumi-Link Command Center! Lumi-Link removes control and compatibility issues common to other LED products, allowing intuitive control from your MFD, Lumishore Display or smartphone, without the need for complex switching systems.”

The compact Command Center module is specially designed for ease of installation, IP67-rated for the harsh marine environment and backed by a two-year warranty. It’s a little subtle what’s going on here, but I got a preview of the Command Link at METS and think it’s very cool. If I understand correctly, essentially all the previous Lumi-Link modules — different for each MFD manufacturer — AND the separate command software built into Lumishore’s own controllers are all going away, replaced by this one universal module that also includes the WiFi link that used to be built into some dedicated controllers.

So I think we’re looking at a vast simplification of what was already seemed an elegant and advanced system architecture. It should make dedicated controller, MFD, and WiFi app interfaces more homogenous, streamline updates and installs, and maybe even drive down cost.
