This new HALO series includes two models that cater to the differing needs of boaters. Both radars provide excellent detection with unrivaled short-range performance, while HALO20+ features the fastest RPM rotation on the market, VelocityTrack, Dual Range operation and can detect targets from a greater distance than HALO20.
HALO20+ radar delivers a full 360-degree sweep every second, thanks to its industry-first 60 RPM rotation at ranges up to 1.5 nautical miles. These ultra-fast updates give boaters an almost real-time view at close range — offering the ultimate view for collision avoidance of fast-moving targets.
Ideal for a wide range of coastal bay boats, HALO20+ comes in a compact dome antenna and delivers high-quality short-, mid- and long-range detection. One thing I’m curious about with these new radars is whether the MFD needs to be of the same manufacturer in order to take advantage of all of its features. For example would this radar be fully functional with a Garmin MFD?
Bob, almost all radar scanners only work with displays of the same brand, or in this case the three Navico brands, which are close siblings.
But Garmin has the Fantom 18, which actually 20-inches in diameter. Which may sound strange, but scanner model naming is not consistent. Navico Halo uses the radome diameter, Garmin the actual antenna length, and Raymarine the max range (so Quantum Q24 series radomes are 19.3-inch in diameter).
Thanks Ben. I appreciate the definitive answer even if it wasn’t what I wanted to hear. The Garmin systems look decent enough. I’m just always on the lookout for new features, particularly close-in performance.
Ben, will the Halo 20 work with either the Simrad NSE12 series or the B&G Touch 7? I have the Simrad below and the touch at the helm. If it will work with these plotters which should I make as the master in the ethernet chain? Thank you for a great site! Bob (now coming to you from Manchester, UK)
Hi Bob, I don’t see displays that old listed on Simrad’s Halo20 compatibility page:

But maybe you should contact Simrad and B&G just to make sure.
Also, while I too have experienced generally good compatibility between hardware from the three Navico brands, I recall that it is not guaranteed. Apparenly, that’s because the Simrad, B&G, and Lowrance teams develope some parts of the software independently and are not required to test it with the other brands. I don’t think it happens very often, but no one should assume that, say, a Simrad product will work with a B&G product even though each brand sells what looks like both hardware items, or that it will keep being compatible after software updates.

And…. it gets even better, I have asked 3 venders and all 3 claim the Halo 20 and 20+ will work with the Simrad NSE 12 and the B&G Zeus Touch! ARRGH. I am tempted to order the Halo to see as the 3Gand 4G radars are very hard to find here in Europe.
Thanks Ben, I am actually seeing conflicting information from Simrad and B&G. I have asked both companies but have not gotten an answer. So I am still in the dark.
