  1. Is there a heading sensor? If so, is does the unit have a user definable deviation fields? I could not determine from the Hummingbird site.

I’m not sure, Richard, but suspect that the unit, like most plotters, is using COG for heading unless it has an electronic compass attached. Good point!

Newbie Question – I’ve got a 16″ Hewescraft Searunner which I bought because it can do both rivers and salt. I’m new to all of this and would like suggestions for GPS or GPS/Fishfinder combo.
There are so many options, it’s a bit overwhelming. As to general size and price range, I’d say the Garmin 400 or 500 series or similar look about right. I have a Garmin Nuvi for the car and have to say I’m not that impressed so other brand suggestions are welcomed. Oh, and I live in Alaska so if that has any bearing on the chart availability, performance, etc. I’d love to hear. Any thots?
    Thanks!
