Ben, aside from the Datalux mount and the MFD-12 Ball mount, have you encountered any other articulated mounts suitable for boat use? I’m mounting a Vesper Marine 850 and would like to position it variably according to the traffic conditions. Everything I’ve found has been suitable for ring-bulb reading lamps or dental x-ray cameras, but not much in between.

Christopher, I’m not sure what you mean by the MFD-12 Ball mount, so maybe I’m being redundant in recommending RAM Mount systems, which often use rubber over aluminum ball joints. I’ve often used RAM gear to add position flexibility to electronics with conventional bail brackets. If you size the components correctly you can adjust and hold up stuff much heavier than the Vesper. Examples here: http://goo.gl/1mDtg
Incidentally, RAM makes all sorts of mounts for iPads: http://goo.gl/SkFJa
and there was some discussion of alternate mounts when I wrote about iPad cases: http://goo.gl/0sWsh

Ben, excellent, I have no idea why Ram didn’t come up in my searching over the last few weeks. Managing moving out of a house onto a boat and dealing with root canal and shoulder rehab may have some thing to do with it.
“Ball mount” I got from para 3 of the Datalux post. My bad.

  4. You have to be careful not to play with that BoatUS Ap. There is no “confirm” on the “Call for Tow” button. I hung up when I saw it was dialing, but they clearly got their data packet anyway. They treated it a bit like a 911 call and tried to telephone me and my emergency contact. Of course they should have seen I was located precisely at my home address!
