I have a new, to me, sailboat that I am updating the electronics on. I bought a Raymarine Axiom 9 plotter and a Standard Horizon GX 2400 VHF with AIS. I want the AIS data to display on the plotter. Sounds simple enough. This is a whole new world to me. I'm used to just twisting wires together. Both devices have NMEA 2000 female connections. There is no network of any kind on the boat. How do I connect these devices?

You have to build a NMEA 2000 network, Harvey, even for just two devices. It has to be powered and it has to be terminated. This Ancor kit should do the job for you:

I connected my GX 2400 N2K to a powered network connected to a Raymarine Axiom 9 but I am not seeing the AIS data.  Is there a setting on the VHF/AIS and/or settings on the Axiom that I need to set up?

Hi James, I think that every MFD like your Axiom 9 lets the user decide whether or not to overlay AIS targets on the chartplotter screens, and that you will find that Layer control submenu by first going to the Settings menu on the Chart App. Turning on the AIS Layer should be all it takes because the GX2400 automatically outputs AIS (and GPS) data over N2K. Hope you see targets soon!

I’ll try that.  On my MFD network settings it doesn’t seem to “see” my GX2400.  I have both hooked to a powered device net N2k network.
