The TEMO OUTPOD System Launches in North America

Portland, Maine, October 12, 2026 – The French electric motor manufacturer TEMO launches the OUTPOD in North America at the United States Sailboat Show in Annapolis, October 15–18, 2026. A cross between a pod drive and an outboard, the OUTPOD is designed specifically for sailboats and is now available to order in the USA.
An external mount with unique advantages.
Awarded at the Paris Nautic Show 2025 with the Best Innovative Product prize, the OUTPOD combines the best of TEMO’s pod and outboard technologies. Sailors have traditionally chosen between an outboard on the transom and an inboard pod that requires cutting into the hull. The OUTPOD removes that trade-off: it mounts a true underwater pod drive on a bolt-on transom fitting, with no drilling below the waterline, and can be removed in a single motion thanks to its external slide-mounted fastening system, making storage and maintenance easier.
Its height-adjustable mast allows the motor to be lifted with a simple pull on a halyard, eliminating any drag under sail. This quick lift also prevents fouling while reducing the risks of electrolysis when moored. With its 180° rotating shaft, the OUTPOD provides smooth maneuverability and optimized hydrogeneration.
“The OUTPOD is the mechanical integration the boating world was missing,” says Alexandre SEUX, CEO of TEMO. “We designed it to make life easier for shipyards, who can install it easily and offer their clients a fully customized propulsion system, both for new builds and refits. And we equally focused on the sailor, who benefits from quiet, comfortable navigation with minimal maintenance needs.”

Sustainable performance, custom-tailored range.
Two models cover the range currently. The OUTPOD·1000 delivers 1,300 W and 66 lbs of static thrust. The OUTPOD·3000 delivers 3,100 W and 148 lbs of static thrust for larger boats and more demanding conditions. The motor weighs just 26 lbs on both models and is sealed to IP67 standards on the 1000 and IP68 on the 3000.
The OUTPOD offers all the steering comfort of a 48 V pod (remote throttle with forward and reverse, digital display) combined with the installation simplicity of an outboard. This remote architecture distributes weight between the transom and the rest of the boat, while protecting the battery and wiring from UV exposure, water and salty air.
Power is simple. TEMO’s 2.3 kWh battery cassettes drop into an autoconnect rack with no cables to handle. They charge aboard from shore power or lift out to charge at home. Owners with an existing 48 V lithium bank can run the OUTPOD, and the system works with solar and hydrogeneration.
Beneath this clever design lies the full robustness of TEMO technology. Mechanical-seal waterproofing ensures minimal maintenance, and the direct-drive system connects the motor to the propeller with no gearbox, maximizing efficiency.
A complete plug-and-play range.

The OUTPOD is part of TEMO’s SEASIDE platform, a modular 48 V system in which motors, batteries and controls are shared across transom-mounted and hull-mounted pods. Builders and owners choose the mount that suits the boat, and everything else stays the same. With a power range from 500 W to 6 kW in outboard, pod and OUTPOD™ versions, TEMO offers a 48 V electrification solution for every type of small boat.
TEMO builds its motors in Europe and supports them in the U.S. from its own sales office and workshop in Portland, Maine. TEMO motors come with a 3-year warranty upon registration.
“Sailors now have a propulsion system built specifically for sailboats, and it solves most of the problems that come with auxiliary power in its current form,” says Nick Steenberg, Sales Director at TEMO USA. “Only the 26lb motor sits on the transom, with the batteries inside the boat, so weight can be placed better than with a heavy outboard hanging off the stern. It lifts clear of the water with no drag under sail, supports hydro regeneration and solar charging, and it’s built to be repaired rather than replaced. For sailors who appreciate smart, functional propulsion, the OUTPOD™ is the answer.”

See it in Annapolis
The OUTPOD makes its North American debut at the United States Sailboat Show, Annapolis City Dock, October 15–18, 2026. Visit the TEMO USA booth at ENG Tent 9. A press event covering the launch will be held at the show at 11:00am on Friday, October 16th.
The OUTPOD·1000 pack is priced at $2,600 and the OUTPOD·3000 pack at $5,400 (MSRP).

This modular design makes a lot of sense to me, and I love details like the line and jam cleat used to hoist the pod.
The Outpods also support 3rd party 48v batteries and hydrogeneration:
