PS: Simrad was showing some great glass bridge tech at IBEX too. Story soon.

I’d be curious to know if the ECI-100 will work with a brand new Crusader 5.7 (gas) Litre engine? Crusader engines are J1939. I’m re-powering in a few weeks.

Raymarine will never be able to sell this since it is not approved by the engine manufacturers. It is compromising the safety case of the system and Raymarine might end up with major law-suits from OEM’s, customers etc. Crazy decision by Raymarine! Not to mention that all engine manufacturers can changed their interface in a jiffy to make the ECI-100 useless!
    Hoax!

I don’t think that you know what you’re talking about, Anonymous. The main thing that the ECI-100 will do on most boats is to convert SAE J1939 engine gauge messages into NMEA 2000 messages. J1939 and N2K are both open standards based on CANbus so this is not very hard to engineer ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J1939 ). In fact, Maretron has been doing it successfully for years without any special permissions from the engine manufacturers.
Apparently the ECI-100 will also accumulate fuel flow data (and maybe engine hours?) so that those values stay accurate even if the Raymarine MFD is not powered up every time the engine is. Like the J1039-to-N2K translation this does not involve sending any data back to the engines, so it should not upset the manufacturers.
The ECI-100’s ability to send autopilot commands to ‘certain’ steer-by-wire propulsion systems is another matter, but note that Raymarine is already permitted to do that with Volvo Penta IPS — http://www.raymarine.com/view/?id=979 — though VP may not like the fact the ECI-100 can apparently replace their own gateway.
In the original ECI-100 press release ( http://goo.gl/OFjEFu ) Raymarine claimed a “full function autopilot interface” with both the IPS system and Yamaha’s new Helm Master outboard system — http://www.yamahaoutboards.com/rigging/helm-master/convenience
Ray also claims ZF and SeaStar Solutions (once called Teleflex Marine) as “Drive-by-Wire Partners” so I think we may see ECI-100 and Evolution AP relationships with those systems too.
