Gizmo bridge 2010, a shout out to Garmin ID

Please don't regard him as an "expert"; he's getting quite old and thinks that "fadiddling fumble-putz" is a more accurate description.

Cool stuff. It’s nice to learn about the process behind making the gear we use.
    The boat is a Cobalt.

  2. Colin says:

Looks like a Cobalt dash to me.

Thank you, Brad and Colin. It’s confirmed that she’s a Cobalt, also built in Kansas…

  4. Very cool Ben, and probably a lot of fun. But the skeptics among us (who will never have the access you do) may wonder how many more freebies from Garmin would it take before the impartiality of related reviews becomes suspect? …Food for thought?

Your skepticism understood, Grant. I have friends who still think I get to keep all this stuff and I’m making out like a bandit! But it’s not so. Maybe I should write an entry, or an “About” section, about how this all works, but right now I’m on the very thin edge of the Internet. A few points:
    1. Garmin has rarely given me anything, t-shirts included. I love the Gizmo name plates but am sure that the ID department made them very quickly because they are pros and have great tools, which was the point they were trying to make.
    2. I am a tremendous enthusiast about boating and marine electronics; that’s really who I am and no doubt why I’ve thrived with enthusiast magazines and an enthusiast web site…but…
    3. I can’t be bought. Also who I am. I can’t prove it, but right here you have more than five years of my work, and I stand by all of it. Enthusiastic, yes; bought, no. Check it out.

  6. Well said – and pretty much what I assumed all along. Thanks for setting the record straight.
