Have Another Day seems to consume nearly unlimited electricity. So much in fact that I began to doubt the accuracy of the simple kilowatt hour meters on the shore power pedestal at my marina. Month after month of $300 plus electrical bills will do that to you. Spot checking the power consumption with a clamp meter seemed to agree with the meter on the pedestal, but I wanted to know more which sent me searching for a tool to help me understand my boat’s electrical usage. It took me some time, but I eventually found a cost effective and easy solution.
Veratron’s new NMEA 2000 Liquid Level Sensor overcomes a laundry list of issues that plague traditional fluid level monitoring solutions, including full linear measuring for exact readings. Powered by an NMEA 2000 network, three models are available to accommodate a wide range of tank depths from 7.8″ to 59″.
Fischer Panda UK has announced that its latest generators are now officially NMEA 2000 certified. AIRMAR Technology Corporation, a world leader in ultrasonic sonar and Chirp technology, is pleased to announce their depth/speed/temperature DST810 Smart Multisensor, a significant upgrade to the marine market’s most popular TRIDUCER Multisensor, the DST800…
I have been wanting to explore more about what’s possible with Signal K server, and quarantine 2020 gave me the time. I’ve spent the last week or so exploring all that the server and its array of plugins make possible. I’m impressed and the dashboard you see above is just the tip of the iceberg of what I’ve been able to do with it so far. If you stick with me and some geeky talk I’ll tell you about what I’ve been able to do with all the data on my boat and the tools Signal K Server offers.

Recently they’ve introduced a NMEA 2000 run indicator to monitor circuits aboard your boat and an alarm module that can notify you of problems or provide a man overboard button. These new products build on their impressive array of capabilities and make monitoring your boat easier and more powerful.
While Furuno has just introduced powerful new TZT3 multi-function displays and NXT solid-state radars, that’s all the more reason to highlight their remarkable new SCX satellite compass design. After seeing prototypes demonstrated on the water, I believe that the technology delivers much more than similar sensors at a reasonable cost with lots of install flexibility. In fact, I expect to eventually see the SCX20 mounted on boats that don’t even have other Furuno gear and hope to see other brands develop similar multi-sensors…
Marine electronics specialist, Actisense, have unveiled a world and industry first: TER-U – a smart universal micro-terminator for the NMEA 2000 bus. What makes the TER-U unique is that it acts as an intelligent diagnostic terminator which provides instant feedback as to the state of the NMEA 2000 bus onboard. It is also a universal terminator…
