Please don't regard him as an "expert"; he's getting quite old and thinks that "fadiddling fumble-putz" is a more accurate description.

I was at your seminar the last day of IBEX, and when you commented that having a strong (or any) cell phone could be a challenge in Maine, it resonated. I am a SAMS surveyor living on my sailboat in Guatemala, Central America, and we weary a bit of hearing that the good, new stuff requires constant wifi or 3G, which of course we all have all the time, right?
Anyway, have you run across any new devices which will accept foreign SIM cards and will operate well in their home countries? Our Blackberry is unlocked and accepts the local SIM from TIGO, the Guatemalan and Honduran phone company. Works great, but the Blackberry is not a router for other devices. Also, are there any self-contained routing devices which use Sat phones when we are offshore, without being electronic geniuses to jury-rig? I’m aware that we don’t represent the mass market down here, but marine applications were all once niche.
