I'm Sametcan. I built a marine navigation app called Helm and I need help with the part I can't do myself.

I'm in the UAE. The app is built entirely for US water: NOAA ENC charts, USACE eHydro dredging surveys, state lake elevation data, live NOAA tides. I have never run a boat in any of it. So I have no idea whether the depth it puts on your screen matches what your sounder actually says.

It isn't untested. Before release I pulled twelve real AIS vessel tracks off NOAA MarineCadastre, around Cape Florida and Dinner Key, and replayed them through the app. It logged the depth it reported at every GPS fix so I could check that against the chart. That is how I found out it was reading the shoulder cells of dredged channels wrong. Fixed that. There was a long automated pass on top of it as well, routing at shallow draft and at sailboat draft.

All of that ran in a simulator. None of it ran on a boat.

The short version of what it does: you tell it your draft once. It shades water you can't cross and routes around it instead of drawing a line straight through a two-foot shoal. Depth is four sources merged into one number, and it shows you the date that measurement was surveyed and the chart's CATZOC confidence rating, so you can tell an old sounding from a fresh one. Tides and currents come from NOAA CO-OPS on MLLW. 161 chart packs download to the phone, after which everything works with no signal. AIS, anchor alarm, logbook, iPad, CarPlay.

What I'm after: take it somewhere you know well and tell me where it's wrong. Mostly where its depth disagrees with your sounder, and where it plans a route you'd never actually run.

What you get: a free year. No card, nothing to type in. Open the app, go to Settings, then Contact support, and send the mail that opens. It carries your account ID and I switch you over from my end.
