The OLAS Tags and Float-On Flashlights are apparently now in the U.S. at these MRPs (Minimum Retail Prices):

OLAS Tag (single pack): Wearable Crew Tracker: $74.95
OLAS Tag (4-Pack): Wearable Tracker: $249.95
    OLAS Float-On with LED Flashlight+ Water-Activated Strobe: $129.95
    OLAS Float-On Light (only): $99.95

Meanwhile: “Coming July/August 2019, upgrade your system with the ACR OLAS Guardian (Base Station with Alarm and Engine Kill Switch), ACR OLAS CORE (Base Station with Alarm), and ACR OLAS Extender (extends range of your MOB system from a vessel size of 40 ft up to 100 ft).” But I know their prices yet.

Cool, no charging station necessary. Sensor battery lasts thousands of hours and is user replaceable. Looks like users walking away with it after returning to dock is less of a problem, your cell phone app keeps working after you shut down the boat electronics.

I still believe an integrated noisemaker of some kind on the device would be a good idea, to alert the user they need to return the device to the boat owner just as they walk away from the boat. I don’t see that feature, which I have been advocating for in Panbo posts for 5+ years, in the description anywhere. Really need to care for this use case, when returning to dock the boat owner is busy enough without having to chase people down to return the safety devices.

Has Panbo tested this device? Compared to Crew Watcher? Pros and cons? I’m going to invest in two units of one or the other and plan to include the use case of putting a unit in a dinghy while towing. Thoughts?

      Gordon,

I’ve done some hands on testing of both the Crew Watcher and ACR Olas MOB tags at https://panbo.com/man-overboard-safety-options-expand/. There are a couple of differences, some of them more obvious than others. Among the more obvious is the fact the ACR tags are available either as small disc shaped tag or the cylindrical one like Crew Watcher. ACR’s cylindrical tag also includes an LED flashlight and a rechargeable battery.

ACR’s tags have the option of integrating with extenders, hubs, and wireless kill switches. Crew Watcher has a built in water sensor in the bottom of each tag. That sensor allows the MOB alarm to sound the moment the beacon hits the water.

As long as your tow isn’t too long on the dinghy I think it would work just fine. My favorite slightly less obvious use case is on a pet.
