Metro Marine’s underwater lights include UV-C LEDs

Metro Marine’s underwater lights include UV-C LEDs to inhibit marine growth on the lens of the lights. Panboat lives in a rack when not in use so I need to figure out a way to test the effectiveness of the UV-C.

No coatings on the lens, the UV-C will keep it clean

A 275 gallon tote will play host to Gulf waters and hopefully lots of growth. I’m going to circulate and aerate the water to try and keep the marine organisms healthy. I think it will also require turning over the water somewhat regularly.

Vortex Marine's Scout tablet aims to deliver a tab

Vortex Marine's Scout tablet aims to deliver a tablet for the marine marketplace capable of standing up to the demands of use on deck. I've just unboxed mine to see how it does. I need to spend some time on the water with it and that's going to have to wait until after FLIBS this week.

It feels like we’ve been talking about 48 volt power getting close for years. Seeing @dometic_marine ads wrap the columns and on room keys suggests 48v is getting pretty mainstream. That’s a win for boaters but does require some new skills for marine technicians and systems designers.

Destructive testing hit the mark. This cell is never going to be the same. Full video in the comments showing the process to get to this point.

Can’t beat a little Friday afternoon science fair experiment with semi-solid-state LiFePO4 cells. It didn’t take long to puff up but it’s hanging tough without venting.

The new Panbo lab is just about done. It just a big empty box now but very soon it will be filled with all my test gear and get to the “hard” work of testing marine technology. I love my job

Spending some time on the water with @qexperience’s dual screen display. So far I’m really liking the real estate provided by the two 10” displays. It’s a totally new chart plotter to me so I’m still getting used to some of the features and functions.

I spent an hour this morning learning about @cayelectronics’ Cay Cube power system. Rufus Van Gruisen gave me a detailed run down on the system and how it can simplify refits, new builds, and system upgrades. I’ll post a video and write up soon.
