Panbo editor, publisher & chief bottlewasher from 4/2005 until 8/2018, and now pleased to have Ben Stein as a very able publisher, webmaster, and editing colleague. Please don't regard him as an "expert"; he's getting quite old and thinks that "fadiddling fumble-putz" is a more accurate description.

I’m an installer/tech in Vancouver, Canada and Iv’e been around a few years. I’ve been installing a few Furuno FA150 AIS transponders and I’m having trouble with interfacing to both Raymarine E-series and Garmin 4212. I have had no problems interfacing to PC chart programs. It’s my understanding that IEC 61162-2 is basically high speed NMEA, but I can’t get either the Garmin or the Raymarine to recognize it. Has anyone tried this?
Just a comment on the Garmin 4000/5000 series, I was told by their techs that they only accept NMEA ver 2.3 or higher, which is causing other headaches for me, trying to get other info in.
I’m running the Garmin 504 4ft open array radar side by side with a Furuno 1944C Navnet 4 ft. open array radar. The picture on the Garmin is very impressive.
