I can certainly see how these displays could sharpen up a helm design, but what does 15″ ultrawide mean in terms of actual size? Thankfully the product details are up:

    No Bracket, no suncover: W: 390.0 mm (15.55″) x H: 170.4 mm (6.71″) x D: 88.5 mm (3.48″)
    Resolution: 1920 x 720 px

Q Experience is coming out with something similar. They had them on their stand at METS. I think they are a bit larger though.

Thanks, Philipp, but I’d say that a “29-inch IPS panel stretched over an aspect ratio nearing 20:9” is a lot larger, and probably quite stunning if well integrated into a boat helm 😉

Meanwhile, it seems that Ultrawide is defined in the cinema and consumer display worlds as a 21:9 aspect ratio — 64:27 more specifically — and the Simrad Ultrawide is even wider (if my math is right). But 1920 x 720 pixels seems to be a rare screen resolution.

rumor was raymarine was working on something “based on the original “wide” models from back in the day, seems like it all came to a stand still post Teledyne take over.
i had a discussion with garmin today over joining two screens together landscape wise with software “like you can with desktop PCs.” allowing for sonar to scroll from one screen onto another.

Here in australia smaller trailer boats with big ba…ehhh….. guts………. are the thing. so not uncommon to see a 5.5m or 6m venture out into bass straight or the southern ocean for tuna etc. and as such these dashes are trying to accomodate 16″ screens really reducing the view out of windscreens “and making it a pain in the arse for us outfitters”. i love the idea of lower but wider screens 😀

For those, the Q double ten would be perfect. Q has been around for quite a while actually. The are strong as an OEM manufacturer. Yamarin for example installs their displays, just OEM branded. I’ve installed a couple on the new smaller Sea Rays. In general I think the ultra wide display s are more about looks rather than usefulness.
